Greetings,
Thanks to all of you who have sent me the correct spellings that I've asked
for.
I've started to transcribe the Scherzer lecture on his life in Czernowitz.
Does anybody on the list know Dr. Julius Scherzer (or his family) from
Czernowitz?
My hope is to include, more or less, the entire transcript of his talk, as
well as short audio clips of certain portions of his talk, just to give his
lecture a bit of extra "flavor."
Did I mention that he wrote a book about his life in Czernowitz?
Also, I hope to intersperse photos taken from elsewhere within the
transcript of these talks in order to add a little color and enhance the
impact, so to speak, of the plain text of the transcript. Stay tuned.
There was also Prof. Meinhard (Hardy) Mayer (born in 1929), whom I believe
is from Seletin, but lectured to us about the poets of Czernowitz.
I can only imagine what the 1908 Czernowitz conference was like. It was
fortuitous that there was a Czernowitz-oriented conference in the US that I
could attend, since I am working on an online exhibition about Czernowitz.
If you'd like why not visit my yet unanounced part of a new online
exhibition called "Zionism in Europe"?
You will find several of these pages contain material from "The History of
Jews in Bukovina," used with permission of the generous and gracious Jerome
Silverbush.

The Czernowitz pages are entitled "The Maccabi Sports Society" and "Hashomer
Hatzair in Bukovina."
