Dear Cora,
I think you misunderstood, or perhaps misinterpreted, Mimi's message to
Florentin. As you well know, the relations with the Czernowitzer City
Council are far from satisfactory, the least to say.... The approval of the
Popovici plaque by the council is a very delicate and controversial issue.
It also seems to be an internal political problem. In view of the chronic
hatred between Ukrainians and Romanians, we have to be very very careful and
Florentin's involvement could perhaps undermine our efforts to get it
approved with the proposed three languages. So, please bear with Mimi - she
is doing an excellent job.
Regards, Abraham K.

Dear CZers,
As you all know, last month I attended the symposium and the unveiling of
the Popovici statue in Romania. I also met the phenomenal Florentin and his
colleagues in the association. I want it to be known that: NOT ALL OF US,
AND
CERTAINLY NOT ME, would ask that Floretin NOT GET INVOLVED in this project.
Frankly, I see it as a slap-in-the-face to all the wonderful Romanian
people
who have dedicated and volunteered their time, energy, and yes, money (did
anyone from the CZ list send Florentin money for the statue?) to ask them
to
stay out of the project. ASKING THEM NOT TO GET INVOLVED is one more way
to
express that this is a Jewish project. There are people in this group who
seem to work very hard at separating people rather than unite them.
Furthermore, with regard to saying
"I hope they will include the Romanian inscription as a sign of good will":
HOPE IS VERY NICE, BUT GETTING INVOLVED IN A PROJECT IS EVEN NICER....IT IS
THE BIG DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TALKING THE TALK AND WALKING THE WALK. While
this
list be-labors the plaque issue for months/years?
Florentin and his Association is actively doing something about it. I
invite others to write to Florentin and tell him what you think of his work
and
dedication; he is a man among men. I am embarrassed to be a member of this
group.
Cora
