The Toynbeehalle became a Jewish Lyzeum during the Ghetto period, not during
the Russiam occupation. I attended that school during the period end of
1942-1943. My family had a Calotescu/Popovici "autorizatzie". The
curriculum was according to the Romanian system, the language was Romanian.
It was organized by the Jewish Community, which got back the building from
the Romanian authorities and tacitly agreed upon with them that it should
serve as a high school. During the first Soviet period (1940-1941) there
were two Yiddish high schools (called No. 5 and No. 26) but none of them in
the Toynbeehalle. As far as I know, after 1945 there was one Yiddishe
Mittelschul only, but not in the Toynbeehalle.
Regards, Abraham K.
