A few days ago I sent a post of a letter from the Soviet front line.
It was in Russian but I understand most of it.
What makes it so interesting ?
First the date : June 25, 1941 - 2 days after Operation Barbarossa was
launched.
5 days before the occupation of Czernowitz.
Secondly the writer: Lt. Boris Nahumowitch Kobetz , by the name Jewish .
His father was Nahum ,there are no other people who carry this name
but Jews.
Third : Boris ,an artillery officer was positioned on the Czernowitz
front line.
He could see and hear the German planes as they strifed
Czernowitz.
Fourth : He brags how his battery pounds the Germans "until dust rises".
" We will not let them step on our land " he solemnly declares.
This was only 2 days before the Germans broke the front lines and
were
not stopped until Stalingrad , 1000 miles to the East and 18 months
later.
Fifth : Boris lived only a few more days ,he was killed in the German
onslaught.
He was buried in a mass grave probably in the Jewish cemetery of
Czernowitz.
There was no time for ceremonies.
Who was Boris Naumovich - Artillery Lieutenant -Red Army 1941
Czernowitz Front ?
We know that he was Jewish -by his name. He most probably was not
 from Czernowitz.
His Russian is perfect - the Soviet annexation was just a year
old - you do not command
a language in such a short period.
Then the letter is to his folks so they too must be Russian
Jews.

These are my deductions , any other objections are welcome.
           Hardy
