Concerning the map of old Jewish Czernowitz: You can see clearly "Wexlergasse" on the revision done by Arthur. I walked this street with special interest on my visit in 2005. Some information relative to this, to which I would appreciate comments:

Before my visit to Czernowitz I had seen a map with the street spelled "Wechslergasse". This is the way my grandfather (born in Tarnapol) spelled his name. Throughout the time I have researched my paternal family (1861 to 1942) the spellings were used interchangeably. So I was amazed to see the other spelling on this new (old) map of the Jewish quarter. I still don't understand why the spellings were used so interchangeably. Is the simple answer, that it depended on the writer, or is there more to it?

Comments!

Thanks
