Dear Maita:
Your email from Wednesday March 12 included good news (progress on
plans for the museum) and bad news (it will showcase only the period
through the late 1930s). Having traveled to Chernivtsi and other
countries as well, I know how easily precise meanings can be lost in
translation. Can you confirm for us that you are absolutely sure
that that museum and 600th Anniversary exhibit will not include the
holocaust? If so, I'm very concerned. Does this mean that Hardy's
slide show will be modified to exclude the holocaust materials? Will
there be no mention of the fate of the large and accomplished Jewish
community of Czernowitz?
I hope you can clarify the situation. Your role in communicating
with city officials and museum planners is greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Bruce Reisch
