ALEXANDER VAISMAN was born and raised in Czernowitz, has lived in
Israel for many years. His drawings and paintings illuminate the
experience of being Jewish, often under difficult circumstances.
Vaisman's art is motivated by a strong sense of belonging to a rich
and vigorous culture, which was shaped by many diverse contributions
in various geographic locations. Like colorful pieces of a puzzle, his
works form a multilayered, but unified mosaic picture of Jewish past
and present, and provide an optimistic glimpse into the future.

The exhibition includes works from the series Czernowitz Panorama,
Czernowitz Hagaddah, Yiddish Melodies, Long Road, Views from my
Window (Israel), Family Portraits, Bright World, and illustrations to "A
Simple Story" by Shmuel Yosef Agnon (Israeli writer born in Galicia),
poems by Itzik Manger (Yiddish poet and playwright born in Czernowitz),
and poems by Dan Pagis (Israeli poet born in Bukovina) .
