Hi Mimi and fellow Cz'ers
The word Puretz in Yiddish comes from Hebrew "Paritz". When it appears in
the Bible in the Book of Jeremiah it means robber. In modern Hebrew usage it
means tyrant, oppressor or landowner/squire.

Best regards,
Zev
