 - or if you unwittingly put on an item of clothing inside out you have to
step on it three times to avert bad luck - I still do that

I'd never heard about the upside down glass. Usually when I lose things I
see it as a sign that I've gotten too disorganized (become a
*schloche*like that
*rebbitzin* in her *bett*) and so I clean my house and organize my papers -
and lo and behold all kinds of lost items re appear. Next time I'll put a
glass under the table which is so much less labor intensive.
