My favorite as a child and if I find Kirshen Comfiture-We get it now in
Michigan I think I am back in my childhood in Czernowitz.

Confiture with cold water is an oriental delight brought to Europe by the
Ottomans
and soon adopted by all the peoples under their rule.
So did the Rumanians and they called it " Dulceatza cu apa rece."
Very popular in Czernowitz of course.

P.S. Steven Lasky thought some of you might have an answer to the following:
Was it a practice in Czernowitz to finish a meal with some jam and cold
water as a form of desert?
