I know why the Soviets opened the border to allow Reunion with family in
Romania - the UN had asked the Soviets to do so. As an act of Humanity
after war, they allowed people who had family in Romania to leave only after
they could prove that they had family in Romania. My aunt married a Russian
Soldier born in Lita. My mother arranged papers for him (she bribed some
people) so that he could prove that he had a family in Romania.
