Thank you Jerome!

If you look at that map oriented to the North, standing at the Springbrunen
Pl., you can see to the left the street, which became later the Bahnhof
strasse. From this street going north, are two parallel streets. One
(nearest to the sprinbrunen) is the Steile Gasse and the other is the Pruth
Gasse. Between them you can see a field with triangles (8), there was the
"Alter Judisher Friedhof". I know that because my grandfather's house was
neighboring ( if it is correct to say so) that Friedhof. When returning from
Mogilev, we lived there for about a year and the cemetery was still there.
From this map I learned to know that at 1870 my g.f house was not there.

From the 1889 index I saw that g.f. , his brother and father lived on the
Springbrunen strasse.

Subject: [Cz-L] Old Czernowitz map.

Czernowitzers:

If you go to our home page: http://czernowitz.ehpes.com you will find
a link to a version of the 1870 Czernowitz map referred to in Hardy's
post that is of much smaller file size (2.2MB) but still retains an
extraordinary level of detail. It should download fairly quickly and
work on older computers with limited memory.

The entire map now appears in our Maps section and was compressed from
the map posted by Edward Tur on LiveJournal. His original (6.6MB) map
is available at: http://tinyurl.com/md58yr
Edward's map was made from 30 separate screen shots and knitted
together to form a whole map.

**Note the reason 'tinyurl' is being used as above is that 'clickable'
references to 'LiveJournal' are getting caught in the Listserv's spam
filter.

Best,
jerome
