Redoing history.
Now we speculate what Ceaucescu would have done to Czernowitz had it
 been under his rule.
You can never know as his actions were not reasonable.
For these who long for the rumanian rule let me remind you that these
time were
the worst of times for the jews of Cz.
The rumanians frustrated by the non-rumanian aspect of the town imposed
forced
romanification rules : Yiddish speaking in public was forbidden and
punishable.
Posters read:" Rumanians (meaning us) speak rumanian."
The younger generation knew the language from school ( heavily german
accented) but
   our parents didn't.
The greatest satisfaction I had was hearing my mother discussing in
rumanian.
This was the cold-blooded murder of the rumanian tongue.
But she had a job with City Hall and rumanian was compulsory.
So I dont long for rumanian rule , no sir.
   Hardy
