There currently are two maps of the cemetery on the "ehpes" website.
These maps are:
1. The official map as available from the cemetery administration.
2. The above mentioned map, with the old parcel numbers, as deduced from
various information by Bruce Reisch, superimposed upon it.

I suggest that in the future, when referring to a particular
section/segment of the cemetery, we refer to it by its current number
on the official cemetery administration map. You might want to download
it to your own desktop. I myself will use this reference system.

I had planned to have the cemetery surveyed and a map made, but could
not find a surveyor who would make a new and original map. I could have
had a satellite map enlarged and the cemetery area calculated by a
professional, but in the interest of saving money, decided to rely on
one of us
being able to download a satellite map from the internet.

Possibly this was a mistake. Now I need help in finding a truly clear
and current satellite map. I would very much welcome anyone's help
in finding such a map.
To those willing to try:

Chernivtsi is located at: Latitude N 48.289 and
                          Longitude E 25.965.
The Jewish cemetery is located in on Zelena street, south of the river
Prut, in the NE part of the city, almost on a horizontal level with the
Ringplatz (Tcentralna Ploja).
The larger Christian cemetery is across the street and to the east of it.

I have managed to obtain a copy of a satellite map from Google maps, on
which the scale is: 1.62cm = 50m. This map was photographed this last
winter (2008 - 2009). I will ask Jerome, our hard-working and obliging
webmaster
to put this map on the website.
You can access it individually through:

[Moderator's note: shortened address for this site - <http://is.gd/xTKa>

There are similar maps at National Geographic and from Teraserver.
I have been advised to look for a map by Quickbird, have not had time
to do so.

A good and recent satellite map in conjunction with the cemetery
administration map, will allow us to decide which sections or parcels
of the cemetery are most and least overgrown. From the satellite map we
can calculate the total size of the cemetery, each parcel, the length
and width of the main paths, etc.
