Czernowitzers....I want to reiterate the professional advice I received some
time ago. Unless the appropriate chemicals are put down then just clearing
the visible vegetation is a waste of time,it will just grow back again, and
for those of you who indulge in gardening....pruning just stimulates growth!
Regards,Cornel

Subject: [Cz-L] Progress report on work at cemetery

On June 19th, Dr. Bursuk sent me information about the work done so far
on the pilot project. Apparently now, the workers have cleared just slightly
less than half of one hectare. It seems that these are workers who are
regularly employed by the cemetery administration and the work they are
doing for the pilot project, they do in their spare time and that it is why
it is proceeding so slowly.

As you may remember the work started around May 12th. If the work continues
at this pace, we can expect them to have cleared on hectare, by July24th.
Edgar Hauster was in Czernowitz about a week ago and he too measured
the area cleared by the hired workers and came to the same conclusion about
the size of the area cleared. Dr. Bursuk, according to his original
agreement with the workers, is not paying them until the work is completed,
possibly they will therefore work faster now.

Dr. Bursuk will look for other workers or contractors, we might hire to do
the work. I will be in Czernowitz in August and possibly might then also
look for a local contractor to do the work.

In the meantime, two work-camps to clear the cemetery of rampant vegetation
will take place in Chernivtsi, one by ASF in July and the other in August by
SVIT Ukraine. 12 volunteers have already signed up for the SVIT work-camp,
among them two of those who participated last year. One of the Chernivtsi
young women who joined the volunteers last year, will join them again this
year too.
