Thanks Hardy and Mimi for your help in understanding what took place. My=

fear was that the workers being used in the Jewish cemetery were not caref=
ul,
and that damage done by them would be at our cost.
I feel better about it now. However, I am still concerned that the clearin=
g
being done will not last, without on goinig maintenance.

I would like to give my translation of what Reinhold Czarny writes. It =

After our complaint, the female director hade the tomb of my grandfather
repaired by the garden administration, but those who did not notice it,=

were
out of luck.
"hat schlechte Karten." means literally: has bad cards, figuratively - is
out of luck.
What Reinhold means by this, is that, he noticed the damage to his
grandfather's tomb, complained and the tomb was repaired. But those tombs
or gravestones similarly damaged in case there where no living relatives=
 to
complain, were not repaired.

It looks to me as if the tombstone was repaired satisfactorily.
