Hello all

I believe that the Austro-Hungarian Empire won these lands from the
Turks/Ottoman Empire in battle in 1744, and the Emperor issued the Edict of
Toleration in 1761. The "political facts" probably do not correlate squarely
with actual events, so the information may be somewhat irrelevant. I would
imagine that Austro-Hungary did not, in fact, establish "on the ground"
control/sovereignty for some time. We also know that Jews were well treated
under Ottoman rule.

Anny,
The Turkish rule ended in 1775. In the mid 1800 there were no Turks
there.
Even before - there were no Turks , they ruled by proxy (tax collectors).
In the meantime we know the story of the Moslem mass grave on the
Jewish cemetery.

    1. These were Russian soldiers from the Caucas or Asia Minor and of
Moslem creed
         fallen in WW1. No Turks.
    2. At the time they were buried , the area was outside of the Jewish
Cemetery,
in an area named Military Cemetery. Later the Jewish cemetery
expanded to
the north and south including the Military Cemetery.
