Good looking girl on Herrengasse.
In Czernowitz you would say that she was "fesch".
On the other hand if she was plain - she would be a "Farseienisch".
If a pregnant woman met a Farseienisch , she must not stare at her
or fix her( sich farseien) . This would damage the baby's looks or worse.
All the child's possible illnesses or deformations were attributed to
the mother's peep in the wrong direction.
If properly handled in due time the Farseienish effect could be lifted
by an early visit to the neighborhood "Kishefmacherin ". ( Magic maker-
Witch).
But this is a different story.
