Hi...the correct translation of the German bit is "a for us quite unknown
and always peaceful place"....Google got "for us" and the Fuehrer slightly
confused! Cornel

Dear Czernowitzers,
A friend of mine from France visited Czernowitz a few days ago and
sent me from there a very interesting book:
TARA FAGILOR. (XVII) ALMANAH CULTURAL-LITERAR AL ROMANILOR NORD
BUCOVINIENI ALCATUIT DE DUMITRU COVALCIUC.
Published Cernauti-Targu-Mures, 2008,
by Societatea Culturala "Arboroasa" Cernauti.
This volume has articles related to the history and the culture of
Bucovina and Cernauti, from its beginnings until today, as seen from
the Romanian perspective.
For an outsider, without any knowledge of this area, it is a
description of a place completely "judenrein". I could not find one
single word about any Jews or Jewish culture, not from before and
not of today, and of course not a word about anti-Semitism. What a
paradise all the hundreds of years. Eine, fuehr uns, ganz unbekannte
und endlich ruhige Stelle.

[Google translates this as: "One to lead us, quite unknown, and
finally a quiet place." moderator Bruce]

Please permit me, to convey to all of you my sincere thanks for all
that this Czernowitzer Club has done
and to wish you all Health, Happiness, Shalom and Success in the
upcoming year 5770.
Dr. Wolf Terner, Stockholm, Sweden.
