On Kapusta mit Kwass.
Kapusta is cabbage and Kwass is a drink but the saying has no relation to
either.
When we were toddlers every second question was : "Wass ist das ?"
driving our
  mothers to despair.
We wanted to know what was a chicken , a cat , a dog , a horse etc.
Why the chicken had only two legs and the cat four ?
After a time our mothers were close to a nervous breakdown and then we
got
the answer : "Kapusta mit Kwass."
What relation to the question ? None whatsoever .
     Just for the rhyme's sake.
And to put an end to the session.
For negative answers , later in life ,the answer was : " Dr-ck mit
Leber ".
The standard answer to the question : " Wie geht's ( How goes )?"
after 1940.
But for this we come back later.
       Hardy
