Hello Fellow Czernowitzer!
I also remember my mother telling me the poem “Dunkel war’s, der Mond schien helle…”
And two books for children, which my parents managed to take along for me (!) till Paris: “Der Struwelpeter” (I remember him from the drawing on the book with his hair and nails) and “Die kunterbunte Kiste”… (I probably still have them in an old box, somewhere in the garage) It’s only later, as a young lad, that “Max und Moritz” completed my education, together with some more serious German literature…
I feel a bit better now, but I’m still having every three weeks what the doctor calls a “maintenance chemo”: I don’t know how long this will last but, as we say in French, “L’espoir fait vivre!”
I wish you all a happy and healthy year 2010 – whether secular or not, is not a problem…
Charles Rosner
