Hardy, your memory is the best, both for Ruthenian and for German poetry.
I do not remember many of the words you quote, would you please translate
all of them?
I would like to add one other word, the origin of which I am not sure about.
The word is "shmateh". Does it come from the Hebrew "Smartut"? Or is it a
Slavic word? It was used to mean rag, but also a woman of easy virtue.
