Every language has its literary version and its various colloquial versions.
In the 19th and early 20th century, most Yiddish books were published and
printed in Vilna. I believe that this is why Lithuanian Yiddish became the
literary Yiddish.

Hardy, you are right that all languages adopt words from other languages,
but unless there is a consensus about which words to keep and which words to
disallow, one language becomes many different ones.
To decide what the consensus is, they do not have a plebiscite, but
generally allow some authors and academicians to make the decisions.
That is why they held the Yiddish conference in Czernowitz.

Like you, I prefer to speak and hear Czernowitz Yiddish rather than "Litvak"
Yiddish, but no one asked me.
