Hi all! In case anybody else is looking for gravestones....both my dad's missing grave in the as yet uncleared jungle and the 2 gravestones shown in the Harry Jarvis article were found and photographed during my recent trip due to the help of Nataliya Masliy and her cemetery expert friend Vasili, and I am happy to put people in contact if needed. Czernowitzers...
1. Of course you all know now that the album of photographs OF list
members is posted and will be updated from time to time with new photos
that you send. I think everyone finds it interesting to put a face to
those that we've been talking to on-line for some time.
That said, since the purpose of the album is to give all of us an idea
of who we are talking to and sharing data with, it doesn't make much
sense to send pictures of your dog or your baby picture. You might
consider sending a reasonably recent picture of yourself if you've not
done so on the first pass.
The Album is at: http://czernowitz.ehpes.com/plm-album/
Send updates to merlek_at_videotron.ca
2. From Anny Mater, her account of the German occupation of Czernowitz
follows her piece about the Russian occupation. I guarantee that once
you start this article, you won't be able to stop reading until the end.
It is an outstanding work. You can get there from the Menu on the Home
Page http://czernowitz.ehpes.com -> Stories Histories... -> Item 35:
The German Occupation of Czernowitz as recalled by Anny Matar. Or
directly at: http://czernowitz.ehpes.com/stories/matar/matar-ger.html
3. Another article published by Harry Jarvis in a 2010 issue of Shemote.
The direct link: http://czernowitz.ehpes.com/stories/jarvis/img065a.pdf
or you can get there from the Menu on the Home Page - Stories -> Item
32b: This Year in Chernivtsi.
4. Shula Klinger has contributed two photographs at the end of the 'An
album of Pre-1945 Czernowitz/Bukovina photos from List Members' - The
link to the Album is:
http://czernowitz.ehpes.com/czernowitz6/members/production/index.html
You can navigate there from the Menu too... Pre-1945 Czernowitz
Photographs -> the first item on the splash page.
5. Dick Conoboy has contributed an interesting biography to the 'List
Members' Biographies' section. Find his name and click on it. For the
lazy, http://czernowitz.ehpes.com/bio/bio-conoboy.html
6. I've started a 'Post WWII Photographs From List Members Album -- the
same kind of thing as for the Pre 1945 Czernowitz Photos from List
Members. Thus we now have a place to capture the more modern photos that
don't have a good home. The first occupants of this section are Ruth
Gold's photos. See the socialist hordes of 1946 Jewish students from
School #18 march on Siebenbuergerstrasse among other things. I'm in the
process of adding other photos very soon. You can get there directly at:
http://czernowitz.ehpes.com/czernowitz8/post45lmp/
or from the Menu: Post WWII Czernowitz Photograps -> Post WWII
Bukovina/Czernowitz Photos contributed by various List Members (the
first item on the page.
Best,
jerome
