Mimi ,in Austrian German the word is standard.....as in "es ist miesses
Wetter"...lousy weather! I also have a1932 German Woerterbuch in which the
word is listed (published in Berlin by Verlag Th.Knaur). Cornel

To the best of my knowledge, in Yiddish, "miess" means ugly.
In German there is no such word as "miess", but there is "mies", which means
rotten foul run down, Etc.

Does anyone know, was the "depression" felt in Czernowitz?
Or for that matter in Romania?
After all, Romania was not industrialized and did not engage much in
international commerce.
