To the best of my knowledge, in Yiddish, "miess" means ugly.
In German there is no such word as =B3miess=B2, but there is =B3mies=B2, which mean=
s
rotten foul run down, Etc.

Does anyone know, was the =B3depression=B2 felt in Czernowitz?
Or for that matter in Romania?
After all, Romania was not industrialized and did not engage much in
international commerce.
