Hardy,

Can you tell us, what article this photograph was supposed to illustrate in
"Life " magazine?

For those who do not know: the Austriaplatz was where the daily food market
was held. I very often accompanied my mother, when she went shopping there
for butte, eggs, vegetables and fruit.
By their dress I would say that the picture shows Romanian peasants, but I
may be wrong, because most of the peasants who sold their produce in
Czernowitz, were Ruthenians.
