Hi Hardy, You stayed on the roof, like the fidler???
Everyone has an interesting story...when the german army retreated through
Czernowitz. everyone looked for a place to hidden, because nobody knew, how
it will be...so we were 3 jewish families in the appartment house in the
Maria-Theresiengasse, the roumanian families run away with cars, horses,
bicicles and the ucrainian porter disappeared, he knew what will be when the
red army is coming, he showed to the SS in 1941 where jewish families
live... so my husband found that the best hiding is on the loft under the
roof....on the last store..a long ladder was there for reparations under the
roof, the youg could get up the ladder, but can ms Sussmann with her 80
kg.???but the young men did it one before her, one behind her....we took
some proviant and water in our " biwak", but we could not stay, only sit
down or laying, and look through the window on the roof...we locked the
iron door , took up the ladder...and waited....we heard the shuts and crying
on the street, a neighbour from the opposite house, Mr.Besen, was afraid
when german soldiers locked on his door and shut through the door, he went
on his balcony and suicide himself...so we could not see, only hear, like a
horror scenary by radio...after some hours came home a 17 old very curious
boy, Kurt, who lived with us, who went out this morning to live "history",
knocked on the iron door, we became salt-bodies, like Sara, who looked back
at Sodom and Gomorra, than when he spoke and told us that all is over, the
german soldiers are bagging for civilian clothes, there were dead germans
on streets soldiers, shot by theire comrades, because some would like to
fight...and ukrainian huligans are brokong the vitrines of the shops....so
we escaped without shuttings, hidden in the loft....and soon we heard the
soviet tanks rolling up from the "Hauptstrasse to the Ringplatz... we were
saved,free....free???
Happy New Year 2011" to all members of the list
