You can find more information about the cemetery transcription project here:
http://czernowitz.ehpes.com/newcemetery/oldproject/chrono.html
We haven't updated the above page since 2007, but I can tell you that
over 12,000 burial records with associated tombstone photos have been
posted to JOWBR, the JewishGen Online Worldwide Burial Registry
<http://www.jewishgen.org/databases/cemetery/>. Another 2,300
records are about to be submitted for posting. There are around
27,000 tombstone photos in the set.
We are making progress, but it's been difficult. I've lost some of
the active transcribers as they've had other commitments or have lost
interest. Lea Haber-Gedalia continues to contribute impressive
amounts of data, as does Eddy Mitelsbach in Belgium. My time has
been limited this past year, as well.
I can use additional transcribers with the following skills: 1)
multilingual (Hebrew plus Russian and/or German), 2) Good eyesight to
read names/dates from computer images of deteriorating tombstones,
and 3) skills with Excel spreadsheets for data entry.
