Not only do we dream of Czernowitz, and by "we", I mean both those of us who
were born there and were old enough when we left to remember it, as well as
those of us who learned about Czernowitz from our parents and grandparents.

CZERNOWITZ WAS AND IS A WAY OF LIFE, CUSTOMS, VIEWS AND ATTITUDES.

I recently was in Israel and for the first time in many years, met with all
my maternal cousins at the same time. I am the only one of the seven of us
who was born in Czernowitz, yet all of us share certain typical Czernowitz
attitudes.

This same attitudes occasionally make non-Czernowitzers think of us as
peculiar and difficult. We, on the other hand, take these views and
attitudes as self-evidently natural.
