Thank you Hardy
You just described the Jewish Community of Vienna before the WWII. But that is common knowledge.
What I want to know is more important. Anybody out there has the recipe for the Schmettentorte?
I used to help with the manual labor (grounding the nuts and beating the Schmettene) but never bothered to wright down the recipe. And now with my mother and my aunt gone, there's nobody to ask.
So, P-L-E-A-S-E !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

[Moderator's note: We have three volumes of Cz.
cookbooks posted on our czernowitz.ehpes.com site.
Try volume I, which includes Schmettentorte!

The recipe comes from Lucca Ginsberg.]
