Hello Chana, hello all
I think that what Chana proposes is interesting and productive. This very
list and the website is a recreation of the Jewish life of Czernowitz - I
hope that the historical society of CZ has a link for it so that visitors of
any ethnic persuasion planning to visit, can do research about our past.
Further, since the first time I ventured to Cz in 1996, huge strides have
been made to acknowledge and recognize a Jewish history - I remember
visiting a musty municipal gallery that had a small assortment of ritual
object for passover in the corner of the bottom shelf of a glass case - and
I noted it in my journal that I was glad to see that our presence had not
entirely been erased.
A film, a TV show, an exhibition, concerts and poetry readings (some of
which are already happening) - the more the "powers that be" realize that
its their own loss if they ignore the cultural vibrancy that was dispersed
from there around the world, the more they might want to put up memorials
and teach our history in pride rather than just in guilt.....
best wishes
Sylvia
