Some time ago, we had a discussion on the list about this subject.
Most of us agreed that there were not enough Jewish people living
in Chernivtsi, to have the "Tempel" returned to its use as a synagogue,
but I think that Charles Rosner suggested that it could be made into
a public building with a serious or solemn purpose, which would
also include a Jewish museum, or at least a reminder of the original
use of the building.
Chernivtsi is is a university town, currently the location of the
Meridian
poetry festival and occasional academic conferences. If the" Tempel"
were to be made into a large conference hall, the city would attract
assorted conferences and benefit financially and we, who remember
the former use of this building would not feel insulted.
