How nice to know that the saffron really was used in Czernowitz. And how interesting that it was home-grown! (and the coincidence in closeness of names between your neighbor and mine is fun, too, though there is no relation. My father's great-grandfather came from Bohemia to the US in the late 1860s)

I made these challahs round, for Rosh Hashanah. I have never tried a 5 or 7 braid. I will have to look for instructions :)
