Yes Yossi,
It was crazy!
(Not because of the 37 degree Celsius Chamsin.)
Rabiner Lau was sensational!
I was amongst the 30 people, or so, who couldn't find even a standing place
or a sitting place on the steps in the inter-spaces of the amphitheater. So
I set on the corridor (thanks to Anitta Zuessmann's daughter, who brought
chairs ) looking at the open doors of the hall. But I heard everything from
the loud-speakers.
My personal BONUS was, that I had a nice (and somewhat chaotic) chat with
our dear Cz.-List friends Anny Matar and (surprise!) with Ina Lancmann and
her sister Vita.
I've met with Mady Enzer (Gronich) who came with her friend Dr. Thea
Friedmann; with Anitta Zuessman and her daughter; with Sidi Gross and her
son, Nathan; with Prof. Ruth Enis ( sorry ,we sat in different buses) . I
think I've seen Rita Shilo from afar, couldn't find her later.
I looked for Abraham, Florence and Arthur. Were you there? And you, Noemi?
Miriam Lava? Lea Haber? Who else?
In the Haifa-bus I befriended a young girl of 17 who is preparing a paper
about Bucovina and the deportations to Transnistria for her graduation from
high-school. She came with her mother, born already in Israel. The
grandmother was born immediately after the war in Gura-Humorului. That makes
her a 3rd or 4th generation? She started to learn about the fate of her
Great-grandparents during the war.
There were other very young people present.
The majority in the audience were people around 80 years old and older. I am
thankful to Nava Semel (the daughter of late Itzhak Artzi ) .In her speech
she said that we all came to this meeting to honor them, this great
generation.
And, when at the end of the festive ceremony these people sing the Hatikva,
they do it so powerful that the walls tremble! I cried.
Regards,
Irene

Hi all,
I've attended the ceremony this afternoon. The Recanati hall is the biggest
one (520 seats) in the Tel-Aviv Museum, and it was overcrowded with more
than 600 (six hundred) people, including many of the 2nd generation.
Rabbi Law, chairman of Yad-Vashem said he never saw such attendance in a
Holocaust memory ceremony.
BTW, he told us that his late father came from Poland to serve as Rabbi of
Suceava for some years, before WWII in which he perished.
