Mimi, Yosef, Abraham et al...
Thank you so much for sharing your memories with us. These kind of stories stay exactly at the basis of the volume to be published. The letters hold by the Czernowitz Regional Archives were confiscated from Albert Twers, a German lawyer from Radautz, married with a Jewish woman, excepted from deportation, baptized and being herself married with a Christian. Albert Twers, who assumed a very high risk, was a collegue and good friend of the father of the late Dorin Frnkel from Radautz. The daughters of Albert Twers still live in Romania, most probably in Cluj and Mangalia.
Unfortunately - as a matter of fact - the expectations of the Ukrainian side, in financial and editorial terms, were over the years much exaggerated. The translation works are completely done, but - for instance - the Czernowitz Regional Archives were asking for a unitary multilingual volume, consisting at least Ukrainian and Romanian translations; it's hard to find a Western publishing house accepting those terms.
Mimi, the USHMM may know about the letters, as Yad Vashem does, but for sure they haven't got copies of them and there is no way, to obtain those copies. The Archives deals with them like a treasure. I've seen some of these letters, the originals are in different languages, like German, Romanian, Yiddish. Most of them are desperate requests for assistance from the relatives and friends. The letters are heart-touching, but their historical significance is however limited.
Let's hope that a favourable solution will be identified soon.
