Sometimes I find videos that are associated with Jewish Czernowitz and plac=

them in Livejournal "Gruss aus Czernowitz". I can not always know who the
author of this videos.

The slideshow presents images of several synagogues in Berlin and
Czernowitz where Joseph Schmidt used to sing as a chazzan/cantor.

geben, durch das Medium der Schallplatte Gottesdienste mit erstklassigen

abgehalten werden mussten; dieser Plan wurde, nachdem diese Platten 1930
auf dem internationalen Kongress der liberalen Juden in London mit grosstem
Erfolg innerhalb eines Freitag-Gottesdienstes vorgef=FChrt wurden, in die
Praxis umgesetzt. Die Aufnahmen durften nicht ver=F6ffentlicht werden und
blieben im Besitz der Reformgemeinde zu Berlin. Joseph Schmidt hat eine
ganze Reihe dieser Schallplatten besungen, teils solo, teils mit dem Chor,
und seine Aufnahmen geh=F6rten zu den sch=F6nsten der ganzen Sammlung. Das
Hitler-Regime hat dann diese Entwicklung bald unterbrochen. Die gesamte
Sammlung ist zerst=F6rt worden, und es sind wohl nur wenige Exemplare im
Ausland erhalten geblieben, nachdem mir auf dem Transport bei der
Auswanderung einige der besten absichtlich besch=E4digt wurden.=AB"
