Hardy,
In 1839 the population was approximately 15,000. The first relatively
reliable data is from the 1857 census, with 4,678 Jews out of 22,000
general population.
The first "modern" (i.e., highly reliable) census was conducted in 1869:
gen. pop.within city limits - 23,360, incl. Horecza, Kaliczanka, Klokuczka
and Rosch - 33,884; Jews - 9,552.
