  The place was officially called Czernowitz for a longer time.
   It was the name of our city in our languages :Yiddish and German.
   This is why we called all streets in German till we left in 1946.
     And so we will till the end of days.

Bonjour

My question certainly seems a little stupid, but why did you choose the name
of .Czernowitz... and not Cernauti... My father who was born in 1909 in this
city and died in 2003 in France has always had his identity papers
indicating that he was born in Cernauti.And he spoke german.Before i Know
this list i have always used the name or Cernauti.

If my father was born and spent his youth in this town, his mother was born
in Kolomya , his father in Suceava and his grandmother in Rohatyn. Is was
frequent that people don(t stay where their family was living or its special
to my Family?

I take this message to thank you all, I learn so much when i am reading each
other.
