Mordecai: You obviously have a fantastic memory to recall all those
details that occurred when you were eight years old - plus a very forgiving
nature. I really can't see the humor of it all. Those boorish oafs enjoyed
scaring the hell out of an elderly gentleman and an 8-year-old child and that
is unforgivable. These guys were sadistic monsters.

The sequel on the next morning. We just awoke and dressed - loud banging
on the doors. Romanian soldiers with pointed rifles order us to leave at
once our flat, and gather outside the entrance gate. After some 10-15 minutes
all 7 families of our 3 story building, including the Hausmeister and wife
living in the cellar flat, just below ours, on Hochparterre. A group of
some twenty odd persons - our parents, us children, and a few elderlies -
stand huddled together with a group of soldiers with drawn rifles and
machine-guns on tripods pointing at us. On the opposite pavement - lots of our
Christian neighbours amass to watch the new pastime.
