Paul Antschel aka Paul Celan was also going to be drafted into the Red Army,
he was 24 at the time. Fortunately, Dr. Pinkas Mayer, a psychiatrist and director
of the insane asylum in CZ issued him a "spravka" as a medical assistant which exempted
Paul. Dr. Mayer and his family, his son Hardy (recently deceased and Prof.Emer. UCI),
had returned from Transnistria at the right time.
