Another possibility..unlikely,but!! is a chef. Commis chef is a title that has been in use for a very long time. Cornel

Dear Linda,

I suppose it is an abbreviation of "Commissionsgeschaeft", a term that appears several times in that census, meaning agent or representative, who sells products for a commission. Could also mean broker.
