according to the "Ethymologisches W=F6rterbuch des Deutschen" published =
by
Zentralinstitut der Sprachwissenschaft Berlin, (1.
Edition 1989, ISBN 3-05-000626-9),
"Schnurrbart" also "Schnauzbart" derives from the old Low German term
"snurre"=3D mouth / snout.
