I know that Karl May was a great favorite in Czernowitz.
Personally I liked Erich Kaestner a lot better.
And now I think that "Der Struwelpeter" is horrible.
On the other hand, Christian Morgenstern was a delight.
and the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm, were grim indeed.
