The fact that this statue was destroyed, explains why I,
who went to the Volksgarten almost every day, do not remember it.
It must have been destroyed in 1940-41.
I do not know which Czernowitz statues or memorials were destroyed
by Russian soldiers either in 1940-41 or in 1944-45. But I am fairly
sure
that these acts of vandalism, were not ordered from above,
but were carried out by drunken soldiers, who were not used to urban
living.
