RE: [Cz-L] Messianic Jews

There are Jews for Jesus, which is messianic, but they try to convert Jews
to Christianity. Then there are messianic Christians, which were and still
are Christians, but believe that true Christianity must be based on the real
life of Jesus, as a Jew. They are still Christian, still believing in
Christianity, but study torah, Talmud and celebrate Jewish holidays as they
believe it was the way of Jesus. In a sense, they believe that to
understand Judaism is to understand Jesus. They don't try to convert Jews.

I have a friend in NY who is Christian but is messianic. She celebrates
Shabbat, Jewish holidays, she studies torah and talmud, but is a Christian,
not a jew. Sometimes I think she is more Jewish than most of the
non-orthodox Jews out there. She certainly knows more. Also, last time I
was in Israel, a few years ago, while waiting for the plane to return to the
states, I met a couple who were also returning home, who were Christians.
Apparently, they have a community in Israel, and this couple and their
friends come to Israel regularly. They are also messianic Christians,
believe that as Jesus was a Jew, they need to study and celebrate the jewish
ways, as did Jesus. They told me that they are not out to convert Jews,
only to get Christians to really understand Judaism, and for them, to
incorporate Judaism into their lives. They love being in Israel. All
pretty interesting.
