Alternate theory from the database of Beit Hatefutsot:
Rzeszow - a town in Galicia known in Yiddish as Reisha.
See: <http://kehilalinks.jewishgen.org/rzeszow/index.htm>
Some Jews coming from Reisha and living elsewhere at the time surnames
were adopted in the A-H empire, would have taken the surname Reischer or
Reisch (a shortened version).
Perhaps Rzeszow itself was named after a nearby reed bed? This would
combine both theories . . . but all very speculative.
Thanks,
Bruce
