I want to thank all of you who tried to translate the name, especially Karen Paul, Hadassah, and Vicki. However, it was Gary Rogovin who found the 1905 census showing the family Umensky-a big brood- at 127 Monroe Street in Manhattan. I really appreciate everyone's help. As a footnote, I suspect that the name's spelling has changed over the years because Morris (Moische) Umensky, who came to this country in 1891, is not listed under that spelling in the Ellis Island database. I think it's common for names like that to undergo change from the original European spelling to the arrival spelling, to the later census changes in spelling. So it might turn out that the name was originally something like Umynski. Thanks again.

 Czernowitzers...

It's in English (sort of), and appears to be the landing
manifest for part of Shelley Mitchell's family.  The
person who wrote this in 1906 certainly didn't win any
penmanship awards, so let us deploy our sharply honed
 detective skills to help Ms.Mitchell.
