 From what I know about my own family, Jews migrated to Czernowitz
from neighboring areas, particularly from the districts of Maramures,
or Marmorosh and from Galizia.
One set of my great-grandparents came from the town of Borsa
in Maramures in 1879, one set came from Stanislav in Galizia in 1880
and two sets of great-grandparents were already born in the vicinity
of Czernowitz;
one in Revna/Rivna, immediately adjacent to Czernowitz and one from
the village
of Davideni/Davidivka, south of Czernowitz.
Except for my Resch/Reisch ancestors, they had German surnames
and I therefore assume that they came from Austrian-held districts.
