Shula, in those times a lot of Jews did not have actual surnames..it was
yankel ben moishe ben etc, or sarele bat ruti etc. When told to get
surnames they were named after locations,...ie Wischnitzer, or after their
favourite tree..Birnbaum, or after their occupation..Schneider.. and so on
and so forth!!! Cornel
